El Adveni… qué? – Advent Jesse Tree
English Version:
This is our first Christmas in the US after our big move earlier this year. We are making some new memories and making sure we hold on to some traditions we had started before the move.
One of those traditions is Advent. This will be our third year to do some kind of a study together for Advent. I’m hooked! Talk about having a teachable moment for us to remember Christ and learn the beauty of our Redemption story. This is central to our Christian faith, and therefore central to our children´s education.
This year, some of our best friends sent us the most thoughtful gift for Christmas. It is a devotional book for Advent called “The Advent Jesse Tree” (available in our store) and corresponding hand-made ornaments for each day from December 1-25. The fact that our friends made them helps us to feel like they are very present even though they live far away. Our family has been enjoying it so much!
There are always things we want to do around this time: baking, hand-made ornaments, hand-made cards, and the list could go on forever… but Advent will forever be the one thing we make sure happens at the Hollimans’!
Maybe you’re thinking: “Oh how nice, how special! Keep it up!” But really, I’d like to invite you to consider looking into this special tradition. It doesn’t have to be perfect the first time you do it. In fact, it’s already mid-December and this activity starts on the 1st. However, just doing a little internet search and finding ideas for next year’s Advent would put you ahead of the game! You can add to it a little every year!
What traditions do you have that help you celebrate the birth of our Lord? What things do you do as a family to create memories? Please leave a comment!
